'VARSITY BASEBALL.

The First Game of the Season will be Played Today.

For the past few days the 'varsity baseball squad has been practicing on Holmes Field and the nine has, as a whole, showed marked improvement both in fielding and batting. Saturday afternoon, after a little batting practice at the nets, the 'varsity nine played a six-inning game with the college nine. The batteries for the two nines changed places and with the aid of the 'varsity battery the college nine won, 10-4, making 7 runs in one inning off Haughton. The 'varsity nine did not bat nor field so well as on Friday and succeeded in getting but one hit off Cozzens. Pote caught a good game, but hurt his finger and had to retire, Brown taking his place. He will, however, probably start in today. After four innings Cozzens stopped playing, owing to a lame arm, but he too will undoubtedly play today. Beside the regular coaches, J. Highlands '94 and B. Trafford '93 were out, Trafford paying special attention to the first basemen.

The make-up of the nines was as follows:

'VARSITY. COLLEGE.

Holt, p. p., Cozzens.

Haughton, p. P., Gregory.
