During the first part of the afternoon the candidates for the 'varsity nine practiced batting in front of the nets, those on the first squad being pitched to by Gregory and Fitz, while Arnold pitched to those on the second. The second squad kept this up most of the afternoon, varied by fielding grounders and catching flies, but the first was divided into two nines which played one of their usual irregular games, no score being kept either of runs or innings. Cozzens and Morton began as the battery for the first nine, but afterwards Brown took Morton's place. The batteries for the second nine were Haughton and Branch and Fitz and Pote.
