'Varsity Baseball.

The candidates for the 'Varsity nine have been separated into two squads, of which the second is captained by Griffin '96. Men on the first squad were divided on Saturday into a first and second nine which played an irregular game like that of Friday, no account being kept of rubs or innings. The make-up of the nines was as follows:

FIRST SECOND.

Cozzens. pitcher Haughton.

Scannell, catcher Branch.

Bouve. 1b. Davis.

Dean, 2b. Wrenn.

Crawford, s. s. Haskell.

Selfridge, 3b. R. H. Stevenson.

Rand, l. f. Chandler.

Beale, c. f. Dayton.

Burgess, r. f. Clark.

McVey, Morton, Fitzgerald and Brown were also playing with the first squad and batted on both sides.

Griffin made two nines out of the second squad which played each other for a short time, after which they practiced fielding grounders and catching flies. The following are now with the second squad: Armstrong, Thomson, Bacon, Manning, Goodridge, G. L. Paine, Holt, Harris, Stearns, Bradley, Hayes, Vincent, Cochrane, Kimball, Hanavan, Hall, Ely, Cole, Walker, Pote and Griffin. All the candidates begin strict training today.

The playing was rather better than usual, and both Cozzens and Haughton showed up well. Foster, who was a promising candidate for first base, has split his finger badly and will be unable to play for some time.
