Several matches were played in the Newton tennis tournament yesterday, and the tennis for the most part was pretty good, although the playing shows a great lack of practice. The handicapping is turning out fairly well, but some mistakes have been made in giveing some men too much, and others too little handicap. The matches yesterday were as follows:
H. J. Holt '98 beat B. Buck, 5-6, 6-3, 6-1.
R. C. Thomas '96 beat W. M. Scudder '99, 6-3, 6-3.
A. Codman '96 beat W. Stackpole '98 by default.
W. D. Rising beat M. D. Whitman '99 by default.
W. E. Putnam '96 beat R. McKittrick '99, 6-4, 6-5.
E. R. Marvin '99 beat G. S. Eames, 6-3, 6-3.
F. Wise beat H. H. Shaw '99, 3-6, 6-5, 6-2.
J. B. Read '95 beat H. Bigelow '99 by default.
