To the Editors of the Crimson:
For a long time citizens of Cambridge have been inconvenienced by students running on the sidewalks, sometimes while quite insufficiently clothed. Repeated complaints having been made, the Athletic Committee was finally requested by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences to deal with the matter.
The captains of all teams and crews which run in the streets have agreed not to run on the sidewalks, and to see that all members of their teams are sufficiently clothed. Since this agreement no cause for complaint has been given by any athletic team.
The committee now earnestly requests all students, whether candidates for teams or not, to refrain from running for exercise on the sidewalks, and not to run at all in unseemly clothing.
There is no need of this being a hardship, even in muddy or sloppy weather; for when the streets are not in fit condition for running, the track behind the Gymnasium may be used. It is always open to students desiring exercise.
The committee confidently hopes that the good sense of the students will be enough, now that the matter has been called to their attention, to put an end to the objectionable features of this excellent form of exercise.
Very truly yours,
J. H. BEALE, JR., For the Committee.
