The first great intercollegiate debate of the year is now close at hand, and the participants have entered upon their few days of final preparation. This will be the second annual debate with Princeton. It is needless to tell again what a glorious record Harvard has in debating. It is very true that among the students of other colleges the present reputation of this University rests chiefly upon the skill of the speakers who have represented her in debate. It is clear to every one how much is involved in the contest that is to take place on Friday evening, and probably none recognize it more clearly than the speakers themselves. They have worked hard and faithfully for several weeks, and may be counted upon to make a good fight for it on Friday. The interest taken by the University in the event was never greater. Almost every seat has already been engaged in Sanders Theatre, although the price of tickets has been raised considerably this year. Under such auspicious circumstances, we feel that we can look forward with considerable confidence to the great debate.
