He who wants a reply to the charges that the college man is comparatively selfish and indifferent to those not so fortunate as he, finds a ready and convincing answer in the report of the organization and work of the Student Volunteer Committee, published this morning. The very successful existence of this committee, the Prospect Union and kindred organizations, proves a ready and hearty sympathy in the University with well-directed charitable and philanthrophic movements.

Not only are those directly engaged in the Committee's work interested; but the very large number of men, who have each year given generously to the committee's collections of clothing and supported it liberally with subscriptions to cover its expenses have also shown interest and sympathy. A collection of clothing will be made to-day and a canvass for subscriptions will begin at once. It is hoped that both in the collection and in subscriptions the committee will receive the hearty support which it deserves, and has always had in the past.
