The victory in the debate last night is cause for the most hearty rejoicing throughout the whole University. Harvard has again defeated Princeton and taken the lead in debating, and professors and students unite in a general thanksgiving.

A victory at this time is especially gratifying. Last year at Yale, Harvard was defeated in debate for the first time and her debating supremacy, before undisputed, was called in question. Now the thoroughness of Harvard's training in debating is again proved. All of the Harvard team are undergraduates and have taken or are taking one or more of the college courses in debating; and none of the speakers except one has had previous experience in either university or freshman debates. Neither have they had the aid of Faculty coaching.

The debaters deserve unlimited praise and may be sure they have the heartiest thanks of the University. They have worked untiringly and with the best of judgment ever since they were chosen and last night represented Harvard most creditably. The reports from Princeton say that they spoke remarkably well and won a most honorable victory from older and more experienced debaters. Again we congratulate and thank them.
