W. L. Garrison, Jr., '97, presided at the Freshman meeting in Lower Massachusetts, last night, in the absence of R. H. Stevenson. He explained that the meeting was not to elect class officers, as was generally supposed, but to give the Freshmen an opportunity to hear representative Harvard men speak.

B. G. Waters '94 spoke forcibly on the recent disgrace of the class, and mentioned the fact that apologies had been made to one of the men dropped from the Freshman squad, who had proved that he had not broken training. He said that his own class was thus reprimanded early in its career and profited by it.

W. S. Youngman '95 then spoke on the subject of "Class Feeling and How to Show It." The speaker condemned preparatory school combinations in election of class officers.

D. M. Goodrich '98, told how much the crews were encouraged last year by the good support of the University. He said that Harvard's rowing affairs are to be greatly helped by having Mr. Lehmann to coach, as he is one of the best rowing coaches in the world. Goodrich commended the spirit shown by the large number of men who came out for the Freshman crew.

At the close of the meeting there was much enthusiasm and cheers were given for Harvard 1900, and for the speakers of the evening. About five hundred men were present.
