The freshmen played a very creditable game last Saturday and won against the Pennsylvania freshmen by the score of 26 to 0.
Only for the first fifteen minutes was the game closely contested. After Parker scored Harvard's first touchdown the Pennsylvania team weakened perceptibly and by the end of the game the Harvard backs made long gains almost at will. There was very little fumbling by either side, considering the wet ball and the amount of kicking resorted to. Pennsylvania, in fact, played almost entirely a kicking game, being unable to gain in any other way. Coombs and McCracken, halfback and guard, respectively, who have been playing with the Pennsylvania 'varsity squad this fall, put up the best game for the visitors, and together did most of the tackling.
The Harvard eleven, although it must be said that their opponents were werk, were about as strong as the average freshman team. In spite of the wet field the end interference was, effective and the line men opened up good holes. Burden and Boal did the best work in this respect. Behind the line, Hatch ran the team with excellent judgment and played a star game himself, and Irwin-Martin and Hurley never failed to gain.
Pennsylvania kicked off in the first half and after several exchanges of punts Harvard got the ball at the centre of the field. On the next play the ball was given to Parker who went through right tackle on a trick and scored. Hatch failed to kick the goal.
The other touchdown in this half was made on long runs by Hurley and Irwin-Martin. Pennsylvania came nearest to scoring when Brenlinger's drop-kick from the 20 yard line struck the cross bar.
At no time was Harvard's goal in danger during the second half and only once was the ball advanced into Harvard's territory. The most brilliant play in this half was Hatch's catch of a kick-off and run of 75 yards for a touchdown through the entire Pennsylvania team. The two other touchdowns were made by Martin and Talbot.
