Messrs. Copeland and Day of Boston have recently published a volume entitled Cinder-path Tales, by William Lindsey. The author has for a long time been identified with amateur athletics in New England, and the tales are for the most part based upon personal experiences. Aside from the fascination of the theme itself, the cinder-path tales are excellent short stories and must appeal to every one, whether he knows anything about athletics or not.
Mr. Lindsey's description of a college track tournament in Atherton's Last 'Half,'" is admirable, the atmosphere of college athletics pervading the whole story. In "Paddy's Privation," the trials and tribulations of an immigrant employed on a college track, are extremely funny. The other five stories which comprise the volume are all good.
