An explanation for the wretched condition in which the Freshmen eleven is known to be is found in the dismissal from the squad of four candidates for "breaking training." That four candidates for one team, in the strictest training, would have so far betrayed the trust put in them by their class and by the University as to break training openly and repeatedly is almost beyond belief. The offence is unpardonable, and the offenders have been justly punished.
But their punishment should not, and will not, stop with yesterday's dishonorable dismissal. They should be made to feel that their conduct has aroused the deep indignation of the class and has earned for them its thorough distrust. None of them should be allowed to play on another class or 'Varsity athletic team.
