To the Editors of the Crimson:

The Freshman athletic organizations of this University are next in importance to the 'Varsity organizations, and if a number of the candidates for the '00 eleven realized this their chances against Pennsylvania would be 90 per cent better.

The Freshman squad are unfortunate in having only one regular coach. One man, no matter how efficient, can not coach two elevens at once. It is surely the duty of the members of the eleven which is not under his eye to do their best. They member of the I900 second eleven do not do their best. They make a much weaker attempt at practice than an average school second eleven. They go through the signals in a listless, happy-go-lucky fashion, and many of them seem to regard a game with one of Harvard's greatest athletic rivals as the most trivial thing in the world. Even with small boys this would seem inexcusable. An enthusiastic second eleven may turn an inferior first eleven into a winning team. Ninety-nine did this last year; it is now '00's privilege as representatives of Harvard to try to equal this record. At all events the University expects them to do their best.
