Sophomore Crew.

The sophomore crew rowed in the usual order yesterday afternoon. As a whole, the crew is slowly improving, but the tendency is to rush the slide at the start and not to hold it long enough.

The doubtful position is at bow. The three men now trying for the position are equally good, in fact, there is not much choice.

The crew will probably row in their new shell on Saturday, as it is now completed. This shell is of an entirely new model, shaped somewhat like a cigar, with a broad stern. This is to prevent the boat from settling at the stern, at the end of the stroke.

The following is the order of the crew at present with a criticism upon each man:

Watson, stroke, does not shoot out his hands fast enough and tends to pull out at the finish of the stroke.

Wrightington, 7, does very well, but cuts short his slide and so shortens his stroke.

White, 6, is irregular in every way. His stroke is not uniform in length; starting slowly, he gradually rushes his slide so as to finish fast on the recover.

Kernan, 5, takes too much body reach.

Dunlop, 4, is slow in getting his oar into the water; he does not shoot his hands out fast enough and rushes his slide.

Chatman, 3, does not use his back effectively, starting slide and shoulders at the same time.

Cornwell, 2, is fairly good, but slow to catch.

Gleason, bow, is apt to slump at the finish.

Rantoul and Little are both slow in getting their oars at full reach.
