The 'varsity crew yesterday went out for the first time this year in the eightoared barge. The water was very rough and the crew remained out only long enough to enable the proper changes in the rigging to be made.

Freshman Crew.Yesterday the freshman crew ran to Fresh Pond and from there walked to Mt. Auburn. They ran back to the Gymnasium by way of Brattle street.

Sophomore Crew.The sophomore crew rowed on the river in their barge yesterday for the first time. The crew rowed in the following order: Stroke, Cornwell; 7, Wrightington; 6, Elder; 5, Kernan; 4, Dunlop; 3, Chatman; 2, Rantoul; bow, Gleason.

The 'varsity launch has been put in commission and Mr. Watson coached the men from it for a short time.

The crew will race this year in a new shell, built by Davy, from a very original plan of Mr. Bryant, the yacht designer. The boat is shaped very much like a cigar, the stern being square and about eight inches wide. It is several feet longer than the ordinary, and will weigh 250 pounds. The unusually wide stern is expected to prevent the shell from settling at the end of the stroke. If the experiment succeeds it will revolutionize the present system of boat building.

Junior Crew.The Junior crew was coached by Captain Forbes in the absence of Coach Mumford. As several men were absent the make-up was considerably changed. The order was: Stroke, Frothingham; 7, Jones; 6, Fox; 5, Derby; 4, Stillman; 3, Mann; 2, Brewer; bow, Heckscher. The crew will go on the river this afternoon.
