The annual ten mile road race of the H. U. C. A. will take place this afternoon over a new course. This course has been officially measured and is exactly ten miles. For this exact distance the record is an old and a very slow one, 31m. 30s., made on the old Chestnut Hill course years ago. The last two races have been short of the distance. It is hoped a new record will be established this year. Liberal handicaps have been given so that new riders will have a good chance to win places. The course is as follows:
From the Gymnasium through Garden street; l., Mason street; r., Brattle street, r., Lexington avenue (changed from Lake View avenue); I., Concord avenue; l., Pond entrance along Pond to right and out through exit on right; l., Concord avenue to Belmont; l., Pleasant street to Waverly; l., North street with Belmont street to Mt. Auburn street; Brattle street; Mason street to Memorial Hall.
The race will start at 4 o'clock sharp from the Gymnasium. The entries and handicaps are: Scratch, F. S. Elliot, W. R. Brinckerhoff, H. O. Burdett; 30s., J. O. Wood; 1m., H. H. Brown; 2m., W. F. Putnam, H. H. Richards; 2m. 30s., F. V. Alexander, F. V. Stone; 3m., W. D. Eaton, G. Bancroft; 4m., Artemno Ward.
