Although all the games have not yet been played, E. E. Southard '97 has won the chess tournament, winning 81/2 games out of 9 played. There are three men tied for second place, J. W. Peck '96, A. W. Ryder '97, and T. Spaulding, L. S., who have each won five games out of seven and have two more games to play. The winners of this match will play L. H. Lewis '96, if he is defeated by Southard; if Lewis is not defeated by Southard, he and Southard will go to New York during the Christmas holidays to play for the intercollegiate cup.
