FOOTBALL PRACTICE.

The Playing not so Good Yesterday as on Tuesday.

A distinct falling off in the work of the 'varsity eleven was noticed yesterday afternoon. The work lacked the snap and spirit that characterized it on Tuesday. The second eleven played sharply and broke through well, preventing the 'varsity from scoring during the first half. In the second half the 'varsity did much better. Once the interference got well started and proved very effective, enabling Hamlen to score after a long run.

A run somewhat similar to that made in the Princeton game by Suter was made in yesterday's practice by Duff. He got the ball within a few yards of the goal line and got a good start before any one saw him. Hamlen got after him quickly and after missing him once tackled Duff before he got to the centre of the field.

Beale began the game at quarterback, and after Borden was tried for a while, Beale continued to play on the 'varsity. Both Beale and Borden played poorly. Beale was slow in getting the ball to the backs and seldom got into any of the centre plays. He tackled poorly at times. Borden passed poorly and fumbled, but entered into the game more.

Neither Wrightington nor Hayes played so well as on Tuesday. Both often fumbled the ball. Wrightington showed a tendency to misjudge punts, seemingly avoiding to get them on the fly. His tackling, too, was faulty. Hayes did not punt so well as he has done and could not get around the end for any long gains.

A new play that attracted much attention because it was uniformly successful, was having Haughton rush the ball. He seldom failed to gain his distance through the line. Cabot only played the first half, making many good plays while he was in the game.

The best all around playing behind the line was by Hamlen, who played on the second eleven in the first half and on the 'varsity in the second. Hamlen's punting was always good, his rushing was strong, and with one exception his tackling was sure.

The coaching was mostly done by Newell and Capt. Brewer, although Adams, Mackie, Lewis, Fiske, Mason, Manahan and Deland were on the field. After the regular practice game was finished the 'varsity lined up to practice signals for today's game with B. A. A. The line-up was:

'VARSITY. SECOND.
