William Wetmore Story, whose father was the eminent Justice Story, died at Villambrosa, Italy, Oct. 6, aged 76 years. Mr. Story was born in Salem, Mass., in 1819. He graduated from Harvard in the class of '38 and studied law, but soon left the profession, and devoted himself to the art of sculpture, making his home in Rome. His talent soon won him recognition and success, and he has continued to hold a high and enviable position in the world of art.
Some of Mr. Story's most noted works are his statues of Edward Everett and Josiah Quincy, and that of George Peabody, which was unveiled in London in 1869.
Mr. Story was also a talented artist and musician, besides being the author of several books and poems among which is a biography of his father, the "Life and Letters of Joseph Story."
