The 'varsity eleven did not do much work yesterday afternoon. The men practiced the different plays for three-quaters of an hour but did not line-up for the regular practice game. The coachers thought it best for the men to have a rest yesterday and today so that they will be in good condition for tomorrow's game.
The second eleven, however, was lined up against two of the class elevens, first against '96 and then against '98. It had an easy time with both. In the line-up against '96 the second eleven made two touchdowns. The seniors were weak behind the line and could not gain at any time when they had the ball.
Norton and McKittrick tackled well, while Fox held Hoague in good shape. Sargent was too much for Curtis who had to retire.
The line-up was:
SECOND ELEVEN. SENIORS.
Moulton, l. e. r. e., Norton.
Sargent, l. t. r. t., Curtis, Dyer.
Rice, l.g. r.g., Merriman.
Hoague, c. c., Fox.
Sprague, r. g. l.g., Paine.
Haughton, r.t. l.t., Bull.
Townsend, r.e. l.e., Selfridge.
Beale, q.b. q.b., McKittrick.
Hamlen, h.b. h.b., Lee.
Fennessy, h.b. h.b., Morton, Harrison.
Gierasch, f.b. f.b., Satterlee.
After the second eleven had rested a short time the sophomores were brought in. They did not make so good a showing as the seniors. Flershem and Emmons on the ends were easily brushed aside allowing both Hamlen and Gierasch to make many long runs around the ends.
Three touchdowns were made by the second eleven. The men played more aggressively against the sophomores than against the seniors. Beale played with more snap than he has for some time. His passing, however, was not always accurate. Sargent showed that he can put up a good game at tackle. The change in putting him at tackle instead of at guard seems thus far to be a good one.
For '98 Fuller stood his ground well, while Manning made some good tackles. The team was very weak behind the line and was not very strong in the line.
The line-up was:
SECOND ELEVEN. SOPHOMORES.
Moulton, l.e. r.e., Flershem.
Sargent. l.t. r.t., Fuller.
Rice, l.g. r.g., Hennen.
Hoague, c. c., Marvin.
Sprague, r.g. l.g., Adams.
Haughton, r.t. l.t., Emmons.
Beale, q.b. q.b., Valentine.
Hamlen, h.b. h.b., Gibbs.
Fennessy, h.b. h.b., Shepard.
Gierasch, f.b. f.b., Manning.
