For the last two days the candidates for the Mott Haven team have been running trial races on the out door track. On Monday the sprinters all raced forty yards, starting with preliminary heats of four men each and running down to a final heat as in regular races. Yesterday the distance men took their turn at racing, the mile men running three-quarters and the half-milers three-eighths.
The track this year has been shortened, as last year complaints were made that it stood in the way of persons going to and from the laboratory. Consequently the records are not quite up to those of last winter. Mr. Lathrop does not wish either the times or the names of the winners to be published; owing to the fact that it would count against the men when handicapped for open meetings.
