Yale Freshman Crew.

The Yale News publishes this criticism of the Yale freshman crew:

The crew as a whole has shown great improvement and bears promise of developing into a very fast eight by the time of the race. The body work throughout the boat is poor, as the men handle themselves very awkwardly and clumsily. The faults of the crew individually are as follows:

Bow-J. S. Wheelwright, uses his slide poorly; is very short on the finish and is careless.

No. 2-T. W. Miller. applies his power in poor form, keeps very poor time and is very short in his stroke.

No. 3-J. Judd, is slow in burying his oar, runs his slide too fast and swings out of the boat.

No. 4-D. V. Sutphin, is very irregular, pulls with his arms, hurries his seat and does not reach far enough.

No. 5-G. G. Campbell, Jr., is very irregular in his time, handles his slide poorly on catch and finish, meets his oar, feathers his oar too flat, fails to get around the water on catch, too long on the finish and swings out of the boat.

No. 6-C. B. Sturges, has shown considerable improvement but is very erratic in his time and goes to pieces badly at times and applies his power too late.

No. 7-P. H. Bailey follows the stroke badly, reaches around with his outside shoulder on catch, drops over, settles on finish, stops his slide in the middle of the recover and does not do his work on a line.

Stroke-J. H. Simpson, reaches too far and is too long on the finish, but other wise is good.

Coxswain-T. L. Clark, steers poorly, does not handle the men well and is very careless.
