The gratitude of the University goes out to the graduate by whose generosity means has been provided for enlarged work in the Botanical Department.
This department is able, by the subject of its work, to put much of its instruction into highly attractive form. There is probably no branch of study which offers, all modes considered, greater advantages for this, and the management of the department has been shown time and again to be resolved that these advantages shall not be lost.
The collection of glass flowers has won the most attention, and no collection in the whole Museum is examined by so large a number of visitors. It has the fascination of combining the work both of science and of art. Harvard is proud of it not only because it is unique but because it can, without any sentimental exaggeration, be called wonderful.
