There have been recently several complaints about men who use the tennis courts on Holmes Field during ball games. They appear to be well grounded. Of course if a man wants a set of tennis and can find no other place in which to play than the courts in front of the reserved seats there is no reason why he should be deprived of his exercise simply because a ball game is in progress and the seats are full of people. But the objections have been not so much to the playing itself as to the fact that the men have been really careless about their personal appearance. American college athletes have the reputation of being far less careful about their costumes than the English. Doubtless the influence at work in the gymnasium is apt to make one a bit neglectful. But after a moment's reflection any one must realize that a sleeveless rowing shirt, however immaculate, is not the best thing in which to appear before the grand stand at a ball game.
