Although the score on Saturday was not as large as the one in the game at Philadelphia a few weeks ago yet Harvard played pretty poor ball and the game as a whole was discouraging. The infield especially was weak and did not seem to know where to throw the ball when they got it. In the third inning, with the bases full, there was a short hit to Winslow who had plenty of time to field the man out at the plate but he held the ball so long that one run came in and none were put out. In the fifth Whittemore did the same thing, and in the seventh Highlands might have saved a run if he had thrown a short grounder home instead of fielding the ball to second base. Cook at third covered very little ground and threw to first poorly. With the exception of one wild throw to third Dickinson played his position well and stopped in good form several wild throws. Highlands pitched a good game and held Pennsylvania down well until the eighth inning, when he was batted rather freely. Scannell supported him well and batted better than any one else. Captain Wiggin played a fine game at centre, catching one difficult fly and throwing two men out at the plate.
The batting of the nine was weak and twelve men were left on bases when timely hits would have made them score. The tendency was to hit the ball into the air and no less than eleven men were caught out on flies.
Harvard made her runs in the first and last innings. Winslow and Dickinson got bases on balls and with two men out Scannell knocked a two-base hit and brought in Winslow.
In the ninth, three hits, a base on balls and an error by Goeckel brought in two more runs. The score:
