Dorpfeld, in the midst of his other work, found time to make a careful study of the history and archaeological development of the Greek theatre. His wide experience in interpreting what his spade has just unearthed, has given him a wonderful power of piecing together bits of information which to the unexperienced would seem entirely unconnected. There is almost an intuition in the manner in which he follows up the slightest clue which his investigations furnish him.

A large part of the lecture was devoted to a consideration of some of the disputes which are carried on with regard to the structure of the old Greek theatre. There were many illustrations by the stereopticon.
