It was the wish of Professor Norton, in allowing one of our own papers to publish portions of the lectures given by Lowell while a Harvard professor, that there should be brought into the daily thought and life of the students here some sentiments and conceptions which should stimulate appreciation of aestehetic ideals. The better to accomplish this purpose, it has been decided to issue larger supplements than were at first intended. By this enlargement, space will be afforded, not only for the lectures, but also for other matters pertaining to the same subjects. We are deeply indebted to Mrs. Burnett, the daughter of Lowell, for permission to re-publish from her father's essays, certain portions which have been selected by Professor Norton, and we are also greatly indebted to Professor Greenough for his consent to write an article on the relation of the coming Latin Play to the study of classical literature. Arrangements for other articles have not been deflnitely concluded. It is expected that there will be five, or possiby, six supplements. They will probably be issued each week, although this will depend wholly on the convenience of Professor Norton. Attention is requested to the notice about orders for the supplement issued this morning; no orders can be received after one o'clock today.
