be effectively represented for architectural decoration, but this is a great mistake, for there are few objects which have not been used to beautify and enhance ornamental designs, and there is certainly nothing in nature so common that it cannot serve the architect in his work if he follows the principles of design and sobriety.
In closing his lecture Mr. Hastings spoke of the difficulties the architect has to encounter in obstinate clients and unjust criticism.
