Freshman Crew.

The candidates for the freshman crew have been reduced to two crews. The training consists of rowing in the tank, daily runs, and exercise on the chest-weights and with dumb-bells. The first crew is doing fairly well, but there is a noticeable lack of interest about the second crew that is deplorable. They show a tendency to shirk their work and many of them fail to finish on the daily runs. However, the fact that they rowed the full stroke yesterday for the first time accounts in a measure for their general unsteadiness and irregularity. Both the crews dip too deep and the men do not seem to realize how delicately balanced an oar is, and that it should be handled accordingly. They do not watch the time as well as they should.

The crews are rowing as follows;

FIRST CREW. SECOND CREW.

Lord, Bow Connor.

Cornwall, 2 White.

Duffield, 3 Kernan.

Chatman, 4 Hollister.

Kennedy, 5 Wadsworth.

Sleeper, 6 Irving.

Phelps, 7 Phelps.

Sprague, Stroke Lee.

Following is an individual criticism of the men:

FIRST CREW.

Stroke. Goes back too far and dips too deep.

7. Drives down his legs before his back is up.

6. Slow on first part of recover.

5. A little uncontrolled.

4. Very slow all through stroke. No accented parts to stroke.

3. Swings down into the boat.

2. Dips too deep and does not sit up well at finish.

Bow. Same general fault as two.

SECOND CREW.

Stroke. Kicks out his slide.

6. Swings back too far and rows his oar out at finish.

5. Lacks control with body and slow on first part of recover.

4. Time poor and slow on first part of recover.

3. Irregular and slow on first part of recover.

2. Rushes his slide out and hangs at full reach.

Bow. Same faults as two.

The coaching is being done by Bond '94.
