There will be a debate between the Harvard Union and the Trinity Club of Boston, on January 14. The debate will be held before the members of the Trinity Club in the vestry rooms of Trinity Church. The question is, "Resolved, That the army of the United States should be increased." The Harvard Union has the affirmative and its speakers will be C. A. Duniway Gr., F. H. Smith '96, and J. P. Gately Sp.
Graduate Club.Mr. John Fiske was prevented by a cold from addressing the Graduate Club last evening. In his absence Professor Palmer favored the club with a very interesting discussion of the possibility of providing for the increasing growth of Harvard by resorting to any division of the students or of the executive boards, or to a separation of the departments. He pointed out the difficulties which stand in the way of the adoption here of any such university system as the English, and expressed his opinion that the Harvard system could be continued here consistently with the accommodation of whatever increase in the number of students there may be. The limited number of the Corporation, and their consequently great devotion to purely business interests, was the only source from which he expected great danger.
