The fifth ten of the Institute from Ninety-seven were taken out last night. The men in their order are: 1, P. B. Thompson; 2, H. H. Kidder; 3, Horace Binney; 4, F. G. Shaw; 5, A. L. Sanders; 6, J. H. Ricketson, Jr.; 7, W. S. Hobart; 8, J. H. Choate; 9, H. B. Fenno; 10, Kenneth Horton.
E. R. Matthews '96, W. A. Russell '96, and M. S. Duffield '97 were elected honorary members.
Engineering Society.Mr. Eckley B. Coxe, president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, will give an address before the Engineering Society on "The Choice of a Profession." This lecture will be of special value to men in the Engineering Department. Mr. Coxe is a man of large experience, both theoretical and practical, being familiar with the details of mining and civil engineering as well as of mechanical engineering. In the latter profession he stands as one of the foremost engineers of the day.
This meeting is open to all and it is hoped will be well attended. The hour of the address has been changed to 4.45 o'clock this afternoon in Room 1, Lawrence Scientific School.
Harvard Union.By request we republish the following: There will be a competitive debate for membership on Friday, Nov. 16. The question will be: "Resolved, That suffrage should be extended to women in municipal affairs." The debate will be opened by two members of the Union, after which all members of the University are invited to speak.
Wendell Phillips Club.The competitive debate for membership in the Wendell Phillips Club will not begin at 7.30, as announced on the placards, but at 7.00. This is done to accommodate men who desire to compete before attending the meeting of the Civil Service Reform Club later in the evening.
The competition will take place in Harvard 1, and the judges will be two members of the faculty and one member of the club. The subject will be "Resolved, That universal male suffrage has proved absurd in theory and ineffectual in practice." Open for five minute speeches to all members of the University but freshmen.
