There was little to be done at the meeting of the Chess Club last night, as nearly all the arrangements for the Intercollegiate Tournament have been made. The tournament will be between Harvard, Princeton, Columbia and Yale, and will be held in New York in the week beginning Dec. 26. Harvard will be represented by two players and two substitutes chosen from the following men: S. M. Bal ou, L. B. Shoenfeld, W. L. Van Kleeck, H. Lewis, and G. S. Mumford. Harvard's chances of success are good, as Hymes of Columbia, who has made the highest scores for the past two years, will not play this year.
Wendell Phillips Club.At a special business meeting of the Wendell Phillips Club held last evening a committee was appointed to make arrangements for an address to be given by William Lloyd Garrison on "Wendell Phillips and the Orators of His Time" on Friday night, December 14. The public will be cordially invited to be present.
A committee of Messrs. Page, Howard Whitmore and W. C. Blodgett were appointed to join with the Harvard Union in making arrangements for the Harvard-Princeton debate.
Freshman Debating Club.The regular meeting of the Freshman Debating Club is held this evening on the question: "Resolved, That Labor Unions are beneficial." The principal disputants are, on the affirmative; G. A. Giles, W. E. Dorman, and F. Wyman, 2d; on the negative, W. H. Jackson, A. H. Howard, and F. P. Westcott.
