We publish this morning the official statement of the changes from last year in the number of men in the different departments of the University. We are very glad to notice that in spite of hard times and other adverse influences, Harvard has this year a gain of one hundred and forty two men over last year. The gain last year over the preceding year was one hundred and ninety, so it is true that we are not now increasing as fast as we were last year. But, all things considered, this is very natural and we are to be congratulated that our growth has been as large as it is. It is also gratifying to see that there has been an increase in every department in the University, in the Graduate and Professional Schools as well as in the College. This shows that Harvard is becoming more a university than a college and that the graduate departments are attracting more attention than formerly, for their numbers are increasing in a decidedly larger proportion than those of the college.
