Ninety-Eight, 24; Hopkinson, 0.

The freshmen outclassed Hopkinson yesterday afternoon on Soldier's Field, and found no trouble in rolling up a score of 24. Hopkinson had a light team and could not maintain an interference. They tackled high and were easily blocked off. Their only gains were made by clever plunges through '98's centre.

Except in a few instances '98's interference was very effective. They made most of their gains through Hopkinson's tackles, but did not gain much through the centre. Their centre was very weak, however, on the defensive, and Hopkinson's backs repeatedly found holes for five yard gains. Captain Scott ran his team with good judgment and interfered and followed the ball very effectively. Redpath, Cabot, Rand and Curtis also did well for '98.

For Hopkinson, Homans played a remarkable game, and Richardson did most of the ground gaining, besides tackling hard.

Against such a weak team the stability of '98's interference and the worth of their offensive work cannot be rightly estimated.
