The meeting last night in Sever 11 to organize the Freshman Debating Club was successful far beyond the expectations of its promoters. A large number of '98 men were present and took a lively part in the organization. Short addresses were delivered by Professor Cummings and F. W. Dallinger '93, who both spoke in strong terms of the advantages to be gained by practice in debating.
A constitution was submitted by C. A. Duniway Gr., chairman of the special committee of the Harvard Union and the Wendell Phillips Club, and was adopted by the meeting. Seventy-two freshmen then joined the club and officers were elected as follows: W. N. Gardner of Andover, president; Samuel Robinson of Boston Latin, vice-president; Carl Robertson of Cleveland High School, secretary; B. R. Curtis of St. Paul's, treasurer; J. S. Gill of Cleveland High School, fifth member of the executive committee whose other members are the four officers.
