All the candidates who are now training under Mr. Lathrop ran trial heats yesterday. The distance was the same for every man, once around the six lap track, a distance of 293 yards. As the men have been training only a week, the time was not as a rule nearly as good as it will be within another week or two. The best record was made by J. P. Whittren, L. S., who ran the distance in 33 3-5 seconds. The next best time was made by S. M. Merrill '94, who ran in 34 2-5 seconds. There were eight others to do better than 36 seconds, as follows: E. B. Hill '94, 34 4-5 seconds; E. E. Hollister '97, 34 4-5; H. M. Wheelwright '94, 35; P. da S. Prado '96, 35 1-5; N. W. Bingham '95, 35 1-5; F. McCarthy '97, 35 1-5; H. C. Lakin '94, 35 3-5; H. R. Storrs '96, 35 4-5.
