WE are glad to correct editorially some of the misstatements which appeared in yesterday's CRIMSON in the two communications. We have since learned that Dr. Haiuslord was entertained by the University preacher to a certain degree; and the communication this morning corrects the mistake in regard to wearing the cap when inside buildings.
We do not hold ourselves responsible for the sentiments expressed in communications, nor can we be held for the accuracy of the statements made. Coming in late at night as they generally do, we accept communications if the writers are known to us to be reliable persons. In the two cases under discussion, we had every reason to believe the writers were properly informed. In fact each one was questioned particularly in regard to the surety of his ground, and in the case of Dr. Rainsford's treatment we requested the gentleman who complained of it to get the exact details. He left the "Sanctum" and returned later saying he had learned all that was to be known, and then proceeded to write down the facts. These he wished to have inserted, and we did not feel that we could refuse him and be consistent with the policy of the paper which among other things is to give vent to student opinion. And that it was the opinion of many students we felt convinced, even though it has since proved to be unfounded.
We acknowledge our responsibility in advocating editorially the constant wearing of the cap with the gown; for the error thus made we offer no excuses except that our information came from a source we thought reliable, but which has turned out not to be.
If any injustice was done to any member of the university we deeply regret it, yet in no way can we feel any responsibility in the matter. This statement we from since some have +++
