In the tennis tournament yesterday Phillips and Read best Booth and Thomas in the morning with a score of 6-1, 6-2, and thus entered the finals. In the afternoon the final match was played by them with Pier and Dodge on the Carey Court. Throughout the match the playing was excellent on both sides. Though from the score it seems as if Read and Phillips had won an easy victory, in reality every point was hard earned and not till the last game did the supporters of Pier and Dodge give up hope. Pier's playing was far the prettiest and generally the best. Dodge supported him well in the first set, but in the last two weakened a little. The playing of Read and Phillips was always steady and occasionally brilliant Read's playing was especially good. The most noteworthy features of the match were Read's smashes and Pier's swift, low balls.

The first set was very close. Pier and Dodge had the lead most of the time and Read and Phillips barely won with a score of 8-6.

In the second set Read and Phillips had it all their own way. Dodge and Pier were both wild.

In the beginning of the third set Pier and Dodge braced up and won the first game after two deuces. The second game went to Read and Phillips at deuce. The third game Read and Phillips won love. The next two games Pier and Dodge won fifteen and love, making the score 3 to 2 in favor of Pier and Dodge. After this they were unable to win another game and Read and Phillips won the set at 6-3 thus winning the match and the tournament.

To-day at two o'clock T. Hoppin '93 and J. H. Chase '95 will play an exhibition match.
