THE attention of the University is called to another petition to the Corporation for a new dining hall. The men whose names appear as promoters of the scheme are sufficient guarantee that all the student interests of the university are involved. Further than this Professor Shaler, Mr. Cummings, Mr. Bolles and Professor Bartlett commend the plan heartily. They stand ready to use their influence with the Corporation provided the petition receives a sufficient number of signatures.
This action is taken from a firm conviction that the interests of the college demand at once a new dining hall. All other attempts have failed; this is a last effort. Since it leaves the details of the hall entirely to the discretion of the Corporation, it is reasonable to suppose that something definite will be done. The one thing necessary is to convince the Corporation by a strong expression of student sentiment that we are intensely sincere in this matter.
Our main object is to secure a dining hall of some kind. Those who sign the petition signify their intention of boarding in that hall as long as it proves satisfactory. No one should hesitate to subscribe to this. If after a fair trial the Corporation's plan is shown to be inadequate, it stands to reason that it will be remodelled in the best possible way. Again we would urge the students to take what they can get. The future will decide itself and the only thing to do now is to sign this last petition; no one has anything to lose by it but everything to gain.
