Mr. Frank Bolles has just published a new book entitled "At the North of Beatcamp Water," the "chronicles of a stroller in New England from July to December." This book supplements in point of time Mr. Bolles' previous one called the "Land of the Lingering Snow" which covers the six months from January to June. The new book is attractive from cover to cover. The title suggests the theme. It is a natural history, of both flora and fauna, thrown into the form of a narrative in which the interest centre in the movements of one man, the observer.
The twenty one chapters describe various excursions which the author made in the White Mountains about Chocorna Lake. The reader is interested in the movements of a human being and the descriptions of birds and trees and flowers seem to be mere incidentals, yet in reading the book one finds that besides being delighted with a story, one is learning lessons, unconsciously learned, but valuable still. It is the faithful record of what may be seen and heard in the world of nature by one who will use his eyes and ears. There is an excellent index at the end of the book.
