THE entries for the first winter meeting will begin to-day and close on Saturday. The committee of arrangements has taken great care to make the events this year in every way a success. We would urge all who have been in training not to fail to enter their names. It has been the experience in past year that men will train conscientiously to the last and then, for various reasons, refuse to take part in the meetings. Often, when, to all appearances, the prospect of a large number of entries was good, the meetings have barely escaped from utter failure, because of this tendency to stay out of the competition. Nothing is more discouraging to those on whom the success of the meeting depends, than this backwardness on the part of the men who are counted upon to make up the events. A meagre number of entries certainly do not add to the pleasure of the spectators and we sincerely hope the experiences of past years may not but be repeated.
