The Boylston Chemical Club was founded in 1885, but this year promises to be the most prosperous it has had. It has now a membership of about sixty, double that of last year. Men from Chemistry 3 are now eligible, the only requirement being that a candidate must have had one full course in chemistry.
The officers of the club for the following year are: president, J. A. Widtsoe '94 L. S. S.; vice-president, C. A. Soch '94; secretary, L. R. G. Crandon '95; and treasurer G. Oenslager '94. The Executive Committee is composed of the vice-president and secretary, ex-officio, and F. C. Jones '95.
The club is planning this year to hold a joint meeting with the K2 S, the chemical club at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This plan was talked of last year but was not carried out.
As last year, a lecture is given every two weeks under the auspices of the club, open to the public. At these meetings it is the intention to have the subjects live questions which will be interesting to outsiders, even though they are unfamiliar with chemistry. The next lecture will be given on December 19, by Dr. E. E. Bancroft, who has lately returned from a course of study in Germany. The subject will be connected with Physical Chemistry. Professor Jackson and Dr. Huntington have also promised to lecture before the club later in the year.
The club has taken up a new feature in its work this year. On the weeks when there is no lecture given the club is to meet at the rooms of the different members. At these meetings none but members will be present and it is expected that the men will give short informal talks on their own original work and certain ones will be appointed to tell what is going on of interest in the chemical world and in the papers. These meetings will be largely social and it is hoped they will keep up an active interest in the work of the club.
