Tonight the management of the 'Varsity Glee Club will hold a trial of candidates for the freshman club. With the exception of the 'varsity trials several weeks ago, this is the first occasion to bring out a large number of singers from ninety-seven. Not many men from the class have secured places on the 'varsity club so that whatever material the class has is as yet practically unknown. This work in music offers a man a profitable and delightful way of spending his spare time during his course. The freshman club is not altogether an end in itself from the fact that from its best men must come, later in the course, the nucleus of the 'varsity club. Yet in another sense the club is an end in itself and has one great aim. Aside from the fun of the thing, and the preparation which it gives for the 'varsity, its special mission is the financial support of the class crew. Each year the freshman club gives one concert the proceeds of which go entirely to the crew. At the trial tonight men will be expected to sing a solo and submit to a test of the range of their voices. All men of the class who sing at all are urged to present themselves at 7 in Lawrence1.
