The question for debate at the meeting of the Wendell Phillips Club last evening was "Resolved, that the removal of the tax on state bank notes and the issue of notes by such banks under the federal supervision would be preferable to a continuance of the National Bank System." There was a small attendance, only about half the members being present. The debate was opened for the affirmative by E. S. Page '96. Whitmore '95, followed for the negative. Healy closed the debate for the negative. After the regular speaking which lasted about an hour, the debate was thrown open to the house for five minute speeches. W. R. Buckminister, spoke for the negative; Howard and Wood on the affirmative.
