Weld Boat Club.

The annual fall scratch races of the Weld Boat Club were held yesterday afternoon, the course being from the Weld Club House down to the 'Varsity Boat House. Eight-oar barges were used instead of four, as has been the custom.

There were six crews in all, the race being rowed in five heats of two boats each. All the heats were rowed without accident, except the first, between boats number 2 and 3. Here the latter was fouled and declared the winner of the the heat.

The crews in the final heat were:

NO. 3.

R. T. Capen '95, C. F. Lyman '96, J. T. Clarke '97, C. Nichols '94, T. C. Beebe '96, W. R. Fisher '97, R. W. Dundas '97, F. G. Thomson '97.

NO. 6.

E. Baker, L. S. S., E. J. Hylan '97, A. W. Stevens '97, G. C. Chaney '94, F. E. Hyde, '97, C. C. Dana '97, W. Munro '96, F. T. Lord '97.

In this race number 3, the winner, took advantage of having the inside position by keeping close to the bank, while number 6 swung too far out and took a longer course than was necessary. Both boats kept well together at the start, but number 3 gradually got the lead and kept it throughout, increasing it towards the end, and winning by about one and one half lengths. The rowing of all the crews was very irregular, the men finding it much easier to splash water than to keep in stroke.
