The Weld Boat Club races yesterday afforded an excellent opportunity to judge the new rowing material which has entered the University this year. Though the work was all of it rough and unsatisfactory, as it had to be from the nature of the case, yet it revealed pretty plainly that ninety-seven will have excellent men from whom to choose her crew. Of the winning crew in the races, four men were from the freshman class; of all the men entered nearly one-half were freshmen. These two facts show both interest and strength in rowing matters. If the material is taken in hand early and well developed, it should come out in good condition for the class and intercollegiate contest next spring.
