New Harvard Union.

The New Harvard Union held a successful meeting last evening. About fifty were present and many who are not members of the society took part in the debate. The question was: Resolved, That the Ways and Means Committee is justified in having taken up the consideration of the tariff at this time." The principal disputants were J. P. Warren and H. A. Bull for the affirmative, J. Hewins and S. H. Foster for the negative.

On Nov. 3 there will be a competitive debate open to the University. Several of the best speakers will be chosen by a committee not members of the union, and from that number the society will choose new members.

The society begins the year under unusually favorable auspices.
