It would be impossible for the University to express in any adequate terms, its hearty appreciation of the sacrifice which Mr. Keyes has made, in leaving his business, to go to New London, and coach the crew. Coming at a time when competent coaching is so essential to the progress and final development of a strong crew, it is all the more welcome because unexpected.

Certainly Mr. Keyes can have no doubt of the entire confidence which he holds, of graduates and undergraduates alike to say nothing of the crew itself. The fact that he turned out a crew so admirably trained and managed as was last year's 'varsity, is only a more conclusive evidence of his ability as a coach. The University is unanimous in its appreciation of the unselfishness of Mr. Keyes and its gratitude to him for his devotion to Harvard's boating interests is unlimited.
