The Yale Nine.

Following is a brief account of the members of the Yale Nine, and of their record in previous years.

H. O. Bowers, '92 (age 25), pitcher, has met and outpitched every College pitcher of note up to today. He comes from South Manchester, Conn., where he pitched on the local Nine for several years. Last summer he pitched for the Brattleboro Nine which won the championship in a spirited dual contest of fifteen games with the Northampton Club.

W. H. Murphy, '93 (age 22), third base, (Captain), is an excellent base runner and a good fielder. He fitted at Exeter Academy.

He won the championship for Yale in 1890 by excellent catches in centrefield in the deciding Harvard and Princeton games. At one time he had to give up the position of shortstop, which he played for two seasons, because of no available candidate for third base.

W. F. Carter, '95 (age 18), catcher, made a creditable record in the Staten Island Athletic Club Nine last year. He makes a good pitcher or first base man, but his chief strength is as an unerring backstop. He is a speedy thrower to second base.

H. T. Jackson, '92 S. (age 20), first base, has been Yale's substitute catcher for two years.

W. Norton, L. S. (age 24), second base. He played four years at Dartmouth and it has given him much experience.

A. F. Harvey, '93 (age 22), shortstop, has worked up from the infield. He is not quite so brilliant and steady as Norton in his playing.

G. B. Case, '94 (age 20), left field, has been a perfect fielder. His batting is long, though sometimes not timely. He pitched for Andover Academy, where he prepared for college, for two years.

M. H. Beale, '93 S. (age 21), centrefield, is a heavy hitter. Last year he was substitute infielder.

L. Bliss, '93 S. (age 19), right fielder, is better known as the foot ball half back than a ball player. He prepared at Andover. In fielding and base running he is excellent, but his batting cannot be depended upon.

Of the substitutes, Kedzie, '93, catcher; Spier, '95, left field; Ridgeway, '92, pitcher; Davis, '95, pitcher; and Wykoff, '92, pitcher, the first is the only one who has played to any extent on the team.
