Yesterday's game with the Wesleyan proved to be anything but interesting to the few enthusiasts who braved the hot sun. Harvard won easily by a score of 10 to 1, earning five of her runs. Highlands pitched a very strong game, and prevented the visitors' from getting a single safe hit. Cobb caught him, and did very creditably on the whole. Soule took Hovey's place at short.
For Wesleyan, Kidd pitched a strong game for the first four innings but then began perceptibly to weaken. Tyrell caught him very well indeed, and made the best play for his team, catching an exceeding high foul after running nearly to the track for it.
Wesleyan was first at bat and through the whole game was entirely at a loss to comprehend Highlad's curves. They scored their only yun in the third on a base on balls, a steal, a passed ball, and an error by Cook. From this on not a man passed second base.
Harvard failed to score until the fifth inning. Trafford started off with a scratch hit by Kidd, but was thrown out at second on Corbett's grounder to third. Highlands knocked a three bagger out to right field and brought in Corbett. Cobb and Hallowell both got out, and left Highlands on third.
In the sixth Frothingham got his base on balls and stole second, scoring on sacrifice hits by Soule and Cook. Dickinson got first on an error by Gordon, stole second and scored on a wild throw by Little, which at the same time let Trafford to second where he was left.
In the seventh inning, Harvard scored three runs on two singles and a home run by Frothingham over third base. The ball rolled foul out in left field, and Wesleyan clamed a foul ball, although the umpire refused to give it.
In the eighth four men were scored on two singles a two-bagger, an error by Jones and a sacrifice.
The score:
